Meet Ophelia, Lick Studio Colour Consultant

Tell me about your background and what brought you to Lick?

I come from a background in PR with a strong focus on hospitality, which gave me a deep appreciation for how spaces can create experiences. Alongside that, I have a degree in art history, where I honed my eye for detail, colour, and design.

When I discovered Lick, I immediately fell in love with the brand. I was captivated by the idea that we could empower people to transform their homes, turning them into spaces that truly reflect their personalities. With my natural passion for design and colour, combined with a love of working closely with people, this role felt like a perfect fit.

What excites me most is helping people uncover what they love and are drawn to - how their design choices become a window into their personality. It’s so rewarding to see a space come to life and know you’ve played a part in creating something meaningful for someone.

Who is your favourite artist?

Peter Doig is my favourite artist! His use of colour is so masterful - he manages to make every colour work in harmony, yet each still stands out in its own right. His work feels synchronised yet invigorating, deeply emotional yet composed. I’m constantly inspired by his ability to evoke such a range of feelings through colour alone.

What do you love most about your role? 

I love helping people create a sense of pride in their homes. There’s something so fulfilling about giving someone the confidence to express themselves through design and colour.

Every client is different, and I enjoy tailoring my recommendations to suit each individual. It’s such a personal process - helping them choose colours that resonate with their story, their style, and the atmosphere they want to create.

What’s your design approach?

My design approach is entirely client-focused. I believe the only way to get it right is to truly understand the person I’m working with. Design is individual, and by getting to know someone - their preferences, lifestyle, and personality - I can craft colour recommendations that feel authentic to them. It’s about building trust and collaborating to create spaces that feel meaningful to our clients.

What’s your favourite project you’ve worked on?

One project that stands out was for a client who wanted to wallpaper her hallway. She chose “Village Cricket 02” wallpaper and paired it with “Blue 14” for the ceiling. The result was incredible - the colours popped beautifully, transforming what’s often an overlooked space into a real showstopper. Hallways can be challenging to design, but this project proved how bold choices can create something truly unique and reflective of the client’s personality.

Where do you think your love of color and design came from?

I’d say it started at home. My dad has a background in design, so I grew up surrounded by creativity and an appreciation for aesthetics. Working at Lick feels like a continuation of that foundation - it’s deeply personal to me.

Colour, in particular, fascinates me because it’s both an art and a science. You have to consider factors like lighting, undertones, and how different shades interact. It’s meticulous work, but there’s something deeply satisfying about crafting the perfect combination to make a space shine.

How do you use colour to express yourself?

Personally, I lean toward grounding neutrals - they create a calm, balanced foundation. But I love adding a pop of colour to draw attention to a particular accessory or detail. For me, it’s all about subtlety with an unexpected twist - a small burst of contrast that makes everything feel dynamic and intentional.

How would you describe your interior style?

I’d describe my style as ‘adorned’. I start with a neutral base - something timeless and versatile - and then layer it with rich, vibrant touches. Much like personal fashion, I believe interiors should be an extension of who you are. My philosophy is to create spaces that feel lived-in, curated, and full of character.

Do you have a favourite Lick colour?

Greige 01 is my absolute favourite. It has a beautiful green undertone that adds warmth while remaining versatile. The mix of grey and brown feels incredibly balanced and grounding - it’s the perfect shade for creating a calm yet sophisticated atmosphere.

Where do you source your inspiration?

A lot of my inspiration comes from design and art books. Fashion is another huge influence for me; from looking at the inspiration for collections to decision makings for photoshoots, it helps me understand the root of true creativity.
