From runways to renovations: inside Jim Chapman’s family home

Model, writer, YouTube sensation, and authority on all things style, we were only too happy to help transform Jim Chapman’s new house into a home. ‘GQs Best Dressed’ and one of fashion’s most influential faces, he gives Tash the behind the scenes tour of what has become the family home for him, his fiance Sarah, and baby Margot.

Decorated in rich blues, teals, and greens—with just a splash of Pink 01 for good measure—Jim’s home is a cosy and elegant family haven. Moving in just nine months ago, the house already feels loved and lived in. And that was kind of the point. From flat to cosy family home, the main reason behind the move was baby Margot. They needed more space and a renovation project gave them more for their money—and allowed them to really put their mark on it.

“I love green,” Jim proudly announces. “[Sarah] doesn’t,” he caveats. But they’ve managed to find a happy medium with this gorgeously rich Teal 03 in the living room. It’s got a lot of blue in it, so it contrasts perfectly with their peachy sofa. The effect is a cosy yet colourful living room, with lots of artwork on the walls and some great open shelving to display their photos and pieces collected over the years.

Jim’s hallway decorated in Blue 07 paint

According to Tash, “when it comes to maintaining a sense of flow, the colour of your hallway is so important—it sets the tone for the whole house. Using darker hues will spark excitement on arrival and make every room leading off it feel bigger and lighter”. So, dark and dramatic it is with Blue 07 on the staircase (not to mention some very clever understairs storage) in an eggshell paint for a really durable finish.

“There’s a bit of a green theme running through the house”, Jim admits. And he’s gone full Green 04 in his man cave. The walls, the woodwork, even the ceiling—it’s the smallest room in the house and the effect is one that totally cocoons. We love his gallery wall, filled with works of art he’s collected over the years, not to mention that neon sign.

Jim’s bedroom and bathroom decorated in Pink 01 and Teal 01 paint

In the bedroom, Jim’s gone for light and bright Pink 01 on the walls and skirting, paired with grounding Teal 01 above the dado rail and on the ceiling. It accentuates the house’s incredible period features. “I try and tell clients the entire time, it’s not going to make the room feel small,” says Tash (if you don’t believe her, take a read of our blog on why you should paint or wallpaper your ceiling). The enormous bay windows allow in loads of light which, when accompanied by the gentle complementary colour scheme of pink and teal, leaves the room feeling fresh and bright yet calming and soothing. In the bathroom, they’ve used Teal 01, leftover paint from the bedroom, which creates a sense of flow and continuity.

Margot’s nursery decorated in Pink 01

Last but definitely not least is Margot’s dreamy Pink 01 nursery. “This is actually one of my favourite parts of the house,” says Jim. “I do the mornings and Margot is always delightful first thing…I get really excited when I go to bed now!”. According to colour psychology, pink is great for babies as it’s a really soft and nurturing colour. We can’t think of a better hue for a newborn’s nursery. “It’s the same colour as the bedroom, but it feels so much warmer,” says Jim, “thanks to warming woods and beige accents”.
